Areez Katki

The first time I stepped into Areez Katki’s home, I gasped.

“How do you have my sofa set?” 

I pointed at the familiar mid century modern sofa and matching armchairs that also adorned my (grandparents’) home, and instantly made myself comfortable on them.

It was December 2018 and the house looked exactly like in the images below. “I’d love to come back and do a story for LOVER.” The next time I saw Areez was exactly a year later in Auckland, New Zealand where he grew up.

Last month, Areez’s debut India solo ‘Bildungsroman (& Other Stories)’ opened at Tarq in Mumbai, featuring many of the works he made in the home during his eleven months in India. We finally made the story happen.
